Bat mom shows all kinds of parents can be heroes
I’ve always loved everyday heroes, and I can’t help but be inspired by a sweet story of a heroic mom who recently came to her baby’s rescue. In this case, the unsung hero wasn’t your typical mom: She was a mother fruit bat.
Wildlife rescuers in Singapore had come upon a baby fruit bat that was separated from its mother. It was too small to fly on its own and needed to be reunited with its family. The rescuers had no way of finding the mother, so they let the baby send up its own “bat signal” by calling out to his mom. His adorable cries helped alert the mother to his location, and she swooped in to rescue him in no time—just like any human parent would do if their little one was in trouble.
I see these types of parental heroics happen every day around town, in families of all kinds. While our children may think heroes have to run faster than the speed of light, we know better. From the seemingly small tasks—like getting everyone up in time for school—to moments of crisis, illness and stress, we parents are real-life heroes to our kids.
We truly go into hero mode when their kids are sick—because we want them to be back to their happy, playful selves as quickly as possible.
